A busy day, just back from the zoo today. I just wanted to talk about a bit of a sideline to my positive mindset stuff. I don't think there's anything quite more positive than being productive and creating and doing your own work and getting ahead and moving towards your goals. last week I got a bit distracted with a black-and-white photography challenge and you know that’s great it’s fun, but the problem is I don’t really have any time to do that kinda stuff, but there's another challenge which has come to my attention is Michael Warth’s has done a #7MinDrawingChallenge which aligns perfectly with what I'm trying to do, get a page of a kids book out each day. So if I can illustrate that within seven minutes and then colour it out over the following day then, you know, I'm getting stuff done every day I'm feeling good about it because I’m actually producing some work and so if you can add any of those challenges or even make up your own challenge and see if anyone else wants to join in it's a great way of getting some accountability on getting meeting your goals. #NoSmallCreator #ForkInTheRoad

Amazon affiliates, merchandise, Patreon are all really good ways of monetising your journey. I think it's really important that you put this in place early on in your journey, because then you can start to see a little bit of income. Then you might be able to gauge what might be working and what isn't working. Because if nobody is buying your little bits and pieces that you're putting out which is going towards your larger piece of content maybe your larger piece of content is actually not going to work. So I think it's not only a monetising your journey thing, it's a testing ground for that thing, where you can put the feelers out and see if it's there’s actually a market for what you're trying to do, which might save you some time in the Long run.

So today as you might of seen on my Twitter feed that I'm going to the dentist. and you know, you might think that's not related at all. Why you doing that? Well I'm kind of thinking about fear and fear of acting. Like I haven't been to the dentist in over 30 years and not until today when I've actually got such a bad toothache that I'm in agonising pain do I actually do something about it and I think that comes back to my subject last week when I was talking about doing things which make you uncomfortable doing things which make you nervous. Because they're only going to make you better in the Long run. I've been putting off going to the dentist all this time and like I'm not gonna die, I hope I'm not gonna die, anyway we’ll find out…
So here I am at the other end of the dentist trip and my main takeaway from this whole exercise apart from my tooth is that don't put things off, because if you do you might lose the tooth. And you know you might miss opportunities, you might miss out on lots of things, and you know this fear of the unknown you've got to overcome, and it's funny that putting up with this tooth pain this agonising pain was way more painful than getting it removed, in fact having it removed didn't hurt at all. So I suppose the take away is to take that giant leap to make that step and it might not be as scary as you think.

Rather than getting depressed or getting bogged down or getting fixed on the struggles and living your struggles. I think it's good to be able to try and embrace them and see what good can come out of them, see what those struggles can teach you and make you a better person in the long run and turn those struggles into superpowers. If I can focus on those strengths then I might be able to get a head a bit. I might be able to have a chance at my career pivot experiment,building a successful career doing something that I love, I certainly hope that I can. If you're struggling with anything please hop over onto the all humans struggle Facebook group and share with everyone there, it’s a very supportive community. And of course if you're struggling with any mental health issues - I'm not quite sure which services are available in your country - but really take people up on their services. I’m addressing my anxiety now and hopefully I can find my way through. But when so many self helpers say success is a mind game I believe they are 100% right, you’ve obviously also gotta put in the work. But if your head is not right you are not going to succeed. Because every time you get to a place where you think your getting ahead and you start to succeed you’ll always find a way to smash it down. Because somewhere in my subconscious my instincts are telling me I need to be struggling. Because that’s what I’ve set myself up for, that’s what I’m familiar with and as a creature of habit. I’d weirdly like to stay with what I’m comfortable with, even if that does mean struggling. But you know things have improved. I just got my first pay-cheque six months since my career pivot, and I’m getting paid as a video editor. #PositiveMindset #NoSmallCreator

YouTube, I thought it was just basically a platform for cats doing cute things and funny accidents between people and heavy machinery. I got started on YouTube about three months ago and it wasn't initially what I was setting out to do. I was gonna have my video content on Instagram and then I’d be doing my podcasting and my blogging as well. I thought I had the video for Instagram for one minute posts and I thought why not just put them up on YouTube anyway. And it turns out that it's my number one social media channel, which is really exciting there’s so much engagement, so much community involvement, so much support, that it's really exciting and so I want to be going into what I've been doing and how far of come.

You gotta make sure that all the manual labor and the hard work you are putting in is pointing you in the right direction. I don't have time to sit down and edit for a couple of hours I manage to get probably about half an hour 45 minutes of editing in before bed normally lying down trying to get my daughter to sleep so I’m editing on iMovie on my phone so it's all pretty basic stuff, but it's gotta work for the time you've got available and if the time you’ve got is pretty small then you gotta work out ways of stretching that time. #DocumentYourJourney #DocumentDontCreate #ForkInTheRoad #NoSmallCreator

Now I’ve set these daily goals I've gotta work out how exactly I'm gonna go about achieving them. I’ve already done a week on time management and I’m gonna go back and look at time management with more detail to see how I can actually achieve these goals in a day without getting too stressed, without compromising my values which I've set up as well. I'll be getting down into the nitty-gritty finding hours where I never knew that existed before optimising my time so whenever I have a couple of minutes I'll be able to put them to good use and work out how I'm gonna get a page of a kids book plus this vlog out each day, when some days I might on average get a couple of hours, but some days I get no hours and some days I might get three hours. So how my gonna make that work?

What have I discovered to be the most useful daily tips and hacks for me? What ones are gonna move the needle and get me one step closer toward my goals? 7-8 hours sleep, pretty basic but it’s essential. Creative writing in the morning. Run or yoga everyday. My own little creation the - if this, then that or task sandwich work schedule. Fast twice a week. Using my screen time function as a Pomodoro task timer. Diet, for me it’s, no sugar, no grains, no dairy, and… caffeine, sadly it just doesn’t mix well with anxiety. Quickly writing my Goals, what I’m grateful for and my why when I wake up first thing. The Seven minute drawing challenge. Breathing time. These are the things I wanna make a part of my daily life. I know these things work for me. So why don’t I do them? I get distracted, I don’t have time, I forget about them. So Tomorrow I’m gonna figure out how to turn all of this into a daily habit. #SuccessfulHabits #NoSmallCreator

I’m on my lunch break from some serious earthmoving. So I think what I’ve learnt this week is if you want to implement something don't tell anyone that you're implementing anything because you, no doubt, will not be able to implement it because sometimes accountability isn't helpful and sometimes the pressure can choke you up. Another day of earthmoving today, another day that I can't get to my stuff. It’s probably gonna be like that for the next few days. It feels a bit frustrating but you know, I think I just need to get over that and push through because it's just a short space in time. And it’s all a matter of working with my values in mind, with my number one value being my family.

After being inspired by Gary Vee to document my journey or as he says document don’t create. I decided to vlog my midlife career pivot that started a year ago. Since then I decided to follow my creative storytelling passions into writing kids books. I was on this hamster wheel of a daily vlog, which I didn't even intend to start on a daily vlog. I was going to compile all of my one minute segments together into a seven minute segment, video for YouTube and for the podcast and I was just gonna have it so it was broken down into daily one minute episodes for Instagram, but that’s so much extra fussing around. So I’ve had to stop the hamster wheel, jump off while it was running, just to have this break for a couple of days to focus on the main things and get back to that reverse engineering. Everybody cracks on about consistency, and the thing about consistency is that it's a muscle that you build up over time, speaking of New Year's resolutions, it’s like going to the gym. You know you just can't go to the gym one day and expect to be super fit, it’s one of those things that you gotta, you gotta go to every day and keep on working on it and it's uncomfortable it's not much fun for the majority of the population but consistency over time builds up strength, I think that's the equation. I better write that one down. consistency over time equals strength and that's what I want to be working at in the New Year. #GoalSetting #NoSmallCreator
